What is Visita Iglesia (Church Visit)

It has been a long standing tradition during Lent that the Filipinos go on a local pilgrimage by visiting various churches ~ Visita Iglesia.  This involves visiting 7-14 churches to say prayers or recite the Stations of the Cross.  Typically, all 14 stations of the Cross were recited in each church, but the more recent form is to pray two (2) stations per church.  This tradition probably originated in early Rome when believers visited the 7 basilicas as penance.
