Culmination Quincentennial Mass

The Filipino Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston -- in union with Filipino Catholics in our homeland, in the entire USA and throughout the world -- commemorate the 500-year anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines. While the Spanish expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan was mainly secular in nature, the Spanish missionaries who came along had the utmost goal to spread Christianity wherever they arrived.

The Magellan expedition reached the Philippine shores on March 16, 1521. Soon after, the historic first Philippine mass was held at Limasawa, an island off Southern Leyte, on the Easter Sunday of March 31, 1521.

Over the years, the adaptation of Christian teachings and devotions among local cultures has gone beyond national boundaries as Filipinos have migrated around the globe for a variety of reasons.

Please join us in celebrating the Culmination Quincentennial mass at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral on April 26, 2022.
